Couples having matching tattoos or individual tattoos to express their love for each other are very common among celebrities. Some of these couples’ relationship did not last while some are still blissfully together. But the reason for having matching tattoos or personal symbols of love for a partner where done when the relationship was still “hot” and as an expression of undying love for each other. Here are some of the couples with matching tattoos or special tattoos for a partner:

Posh Spice ( Victoria’s pseudonym) has “DB”, David’s initials tattooed under her left wrist. Victoria also has a 4 eight point stars to stand for her two sons, her husband and herself, done before the arrival of her 3rd son.

Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey
Nick and Mariah were married in 2008 after a very short two months after their first meeting and are still together up to the present time. A few weeks after they first met, they had tattoos done together, “Mariah” tattooed on Nick’s upper back and a small butterfly with “Mrs.Cannon” on Mariah.

Jordan Bratman and Christina Aguilera

Sun Tattoo Designs for Women

For first timers, or tattoo virgins, the sun tattoo design for girls is a great favorite. The symbolism and meaning of a star could account for its popularity plus the fact that it can be reduced to almost any size.

Symbolism of the sun
Sun tattoo design for women symbolizes a male even as the moon is its female partner. It comes as no surprise to find a tattoo design where the sun unites with the moon signifying male and female balance. Sometimes the earth takes the place of the moon.
In the ancient times the sun was considered the heart of the universe and therefore symbolized supremacy and power. In some pagan religions, the sun is endowed with divinity and a symbol of authority and even of wealth and prosperity. In the modern times, the sun tattoo design for women is considered as a symbol of hope and a brighter tomorrow since it never fails to rise every morning, or a symbol of fertility maybe because of its role in making plants thrive and grow. Women, most especially, endow the sun with emotional symbolism such as a symbol of resilience, cycle of life and strength.

How a sun tattoo is designed
The sun tattoo design for women is most frequently drawn with a circle in the middle with rays emanating from the circle. The rays are either drawn with straight lines or with a kris - like shape. The shape of the rays is not given any meaning or symbol but it does add to the appeal of the design. the colors range from yellow to orange to red and even at times in black.

Location of a sun tattoo for women
A sun tattoo can be drawn in any part of a woman’s body. Since it is easy to diminish its size, a sun tattoo design for women can be inked in the ankles, the nape, the wrist, the shoulders, the arms and even in the lower back. But the sexiest location for a sun tattoo is a woman’s navel. It will look great as a standalone but would blend beautifully also with other designs.

Tattoo Virgin Tips

Deciding to get a tattoo is a big decision. For celebs such as Angelina Jollie, Megan Fox, Jessica Alba, Katy Perry and a host of others, sporting a tattoo is trendy and very much in keeping with their status. But when a “good girl” like you decides to get a tattoo, then be sure that you’re totally committed, otherwise it could be rough sailing for you. Remember, a tattoo is permanent and if and when you decide you made a mistake, then you will live with this mistake for a lifetime, unless you are willing to go through the painful process of removal. . Before you make the final decision, consider these tattoo virgin tips:

• There is pain involved
There is pain for sure, but the intensity of the pain you will feel will depend on your threshold to pain and the location of the tattoo. Every person has a different threshold to pain. For some the prick of a needle is just like a mosquito bite but to others it could be a cause for anguish. There are also areas in the human body that are more sensitive than others so make sure that you know exactly where these sensitive spots are.

• Share the experience with a friend or a loved one
Having a best friend or a boy friend who are tattoo virgins also to share the experience will make the pain more bearable and the whole process more of a fun event. if they are not sold to having a tattoo themselves, ask them still, just to hold your hands as the tattoo artist “draws” his masterpiece on your butt.

• Start it small
As a tattoo virgin, it will be to your advantage to start small. A big tattoo will mean more pain, more cost and more time. A small tattoo means a smaller emotional investment too. If and when you decide later, when you are no longer a tyro, that what you really want is to make your whole body a moving canvas of tattoo art, then at least you made that decision backed by experience.

• Choose your design well
Remember that your tattoo will be your constant companion, you better have a tattoo design that you love and will love all your life. Give yourself time to choose, discuss it with friends. Your tattoo design need not be something significant, or even have a meaning. As long as you like, it then have it.

Deciding on the Right Location of Your Tattoo

Before you even go to a tattoo parlor you should already have an idea where to have your tattoo. Deciding on the right location of your tattoo should be given serious consideration. Having a tattoo is an irreversible decision and when it is not in the right location you might regret it the rest of your life.

The most immediate factors to consider in deciding on the right location of your tattoo are the pain involved, cost and size of the tattoo. There are some parts of your body where you will feel pain more than in others. Do some research and find out which parts of your body are more sensitive to pain. This could save you a lot of discomfort. Having a tattoo on hard to reach parts of your body could be a little inconvenient and difficult locations for your tattoo and usually that will cost you more. The design and size of the tattoo should also be in proportion with the “size” of the body part where you will have it. A big dragon will surely be incongruous on your fingers or your ankles.

One very important consideration in deciding on the right location of your tattoo is its effect on your employment as well as future decisions. There are some employers who consider a tattoo not appropriate in the workplace. Having a tattoo on an exposed part of your body could cause you trouble with your boss. This holds true when you apply for future employment and could cause you a good job. Aging and weight loss or gain should also be a consideration. There are parts in your body that lose its resilience and flexibility as you age. A pretty looking flower tattoo now could look like a wilted bloom years later.

For women, future decisions such as getting pregnant should also be a consideration in deciding on the right location for your tattoo. A tattoo on your tummy will be deformed when you get pregnant and the skin on your stomach stretches. After your child is born, the tattoo won’t really get back to its former “beauty”, that you will be forever barred from wearing a bikini. Once you’ve gone through all the options, then deciding on the right location for your tattoo will be easy.

Why Some Tattoo Artists Say No to Tattooing, Hands, Feet and Faces

If you want a tattoo on your hand, foot and most especially your face, you might find it quite difficult to find a tattoo artist to do it for you. Some tattoo studios and artists refuse to do tattoos in these areas of the body. These tattoo studios and artists take up the burden of being the conscience of some green and reckless customers who want tattoos that may cause them some difficulties in the future.

In spite of the wide acceptance of tattoo these days, highly visible body art such as tattoos done on the face, hands and feet can still bring ridicule to the wearer or may even cause them to lose an employment possibility. If the tattoo artists or studios think that the customer wanting tattoo on these areas are not yet aware, or if they are aware, not yet prepared for this kind of onerous responsibility, they will refuse to do it even if it means losing a customer. Although it’s true that said customer can still get what they want by going to less conscientious tattoo artists, at least the guy who refused won’t have the burden of knowingly ruining a customer’s future or even their life.

Reliable tattoo artists fully realized the true weight of sporting permanent art and want their customer’s to be pleased with the choice they make. It now becomes the duty of the tattoo artists to set the limit for their customer. Although, as mentioned these customers will always find some other tattoo artist to do it, but at least the customer will be forewarned and given a chance to rethink their decision. Face and hands are highly visible body parts that cannot be covered. Customers should realize that a tattoo is permanent and tattoos on these body parts can be a reason for being rejected for a job and there are still people who won’t “accept” a tattooed person in their midst, however popular tattoo art is.

For the hands and feet, most tattoo artist refuse to do a tattoo on these extremities, not so much for moral reasons but more about compromising the quality of their work. Reputable tattoo artists take pride in their art, when a customer leaves their tattoo studio, their name and reputation is on the line. Since hands and feet get the most amount of physical abuse more than any part of the body, maintaining the quality of tattoos on hands and feet could be rather difficult.

The Choice of a Tattoo Design

When you get yourself a tattoo, for sure you will be asked by both friends and strangers for its meaning. What they really want to know is what your tattoo design signifies or symbolizes, however simple or obvious the design is such as a flower or a star. Even in this modern times, when tattoo has become commonplace, most people still believe that tattoos are an expression of an inner self. This belief has a basis, since in ancient times and even in these days of modernity; every tattoo design carries with it a symbol or a sign. It could be some suggestion of an association, relationship, convention or a manifestation of character that a person wants to have such as a lion for courage.

The meaning or symbol of a tattoo design can vary from culture to culture. A wolf design for example can denote fleetness and craftiness, audacity and fidelity, a trainer figure or a spiritual leader, a creator persona or a shape-shifter who assists mediums. In Little Red Riding Hood, the wolf plays the part of the baddie and in the Bible, the wolf referred to by the Good Shepherd has an allusion to the devil or Satan. So hinging upon your own beliefs, a wolf may suggest good or bad, vice or virtue. What is important is what a wolf means to you personally.

Although a tattoo may look terrific on a celebrity you admire, it may not exactly be something that you really want marked on your body permanently or it does not really express the inner you. Choosing a tattoo design should involve your creativity and imagination and should at least be given some thought and consideration. The choice of a tattoo does not have to be a thorny or complicated decision but you must also know that some designs carry with it an enormous amount of baggage. Designs that should be avoided are those that are linked to hate, crime or radical groups. Tattoo designs that are sexually explicit or vulgar or that are ethnically insulting may cause you a lot of problems getting hired for a particular job.
